Elk City Resevoir after the rains.

We went hiking on June 4th, in the early morning.   I’d been trying to photograph the cats the day before, so *blush* I ran out of batteries before I ran out of trail.   (Newbie mistake!  lol)  So, I didn’t get a picture of the BIG lizard (at least a foot long, including tail) we saw near the end of our hike. (It *had* to have been someone’s pet, it didn’t look native at all!) You should have seen the Mr. scrambling after it trying to apprehend it.  (He was going to take it by the pet store, that’s how convinced he was it wasn’t native.  I agree.)  Nor did I get a picture of the yellow swallowtail at least the size of my hand that was on the bushes planted to ornament the area where you park your car to go hiking from the top of the Memorial Overlook Mound. *mourn* The other lizard we saw was way too fast. I think it was a skink of some kind, it had tannish stripes, and darker stripes. Got new batteries, now, if the rain would stay away long enough we can give it another try. *grin*   (Don’t miss the second half of this batch of photos, here.)

ETA: ROFL!  I see!  I put the entries up in the wrong order originally.  So, I just did a switcheroo, copying and pasting so the pictures would show in the proper order from top to bottom.  Anyway, er, so this entry’s URL is titled as though it were the other.  Heh…

Elk City Resevoir after the rains part 2.

Here are the rest of the photos.  Making these entries in reverse order again, so you can scroll from top to bottom of my blog, and see the images in the order they were taken in.  *smile*  The first pictures are the crevice you must scramble down in order to continue on the trail.  (Here is the first part of this batch of photos.)  Again, this entry’s URL is incorrect, go by the title, and order it appears on the blog.  *BLUSH*

Dawn with a new camera!

Here are some of the first pictures I took with my new camera.  I was standing on my tippy toes with my arms over my head trying to get a picture of the sunrise without the fence in the picture in these first three images.  I almost succeeded.  *wry*  Heh…

Elk City Resevoir at Dusk

Here are the pictures I took later in the day, I am making this entry first so when readers scroll down they will find the images in the order they were taken.  *smile*  (You can find the next entry here, or the entry with the photos taken at dawn here.)  A storm was coming in when we arrived, so the light wasn’t as bright as usual.  It had also rained, so it was too wet to actually hike very far down the trail.  But, I did get plenty of chances to put my new camera through its paces.  ETA: Here is the other entry with the rest of the images I took that evening.

Spring in SE Kansas

The Mr. and I went on a hike at Elk City Resevoir, and I bought 2 disposable cameras to take pictures.  We took the intermediate trail, that is why you will see blue paint marks on trees in some pictures.  I am putting the pictures in the order they were taken that day, with a Kodak 800 speed Fun Camera.  (Disposable…) The only grump I have about those particular cameras is, you couldn’t choose to have the flash on or off, it always went off.  This made it so I had to edit (almost) every photo to put back the color and turn down the brightness so the pictures would look more like they did that day.  Most of them are right, one or two aren’t quite.
